They will use the questions provided to set goals about what they want the New Year/ Semester to be like for them but instead of using just a New Year resolution they will choose ONE word/ UNA PALABRA that will be their focus or mantra for the year. 4 categories along with a list of words for each is provided. Teacher can choose size of words 8.5" x 11" or half sheet. Great for your bulletin board! 
 
Brainstorm with your class about what types of New Year resolutions people make and if they think people actually keep these resolutions. (English or Spanish depending on level).
Ask them what Spanish words come to mind when they think of the new year.
Have them select a category and a word that they want to be their UNA PALABRA for the new year. Make sure your students know what the words mean before they start drawing.
